As consumers, we trust manufacturers to provide us with safe products that work as they are advertised to work. When a product causes harm to a person due to faulty manufacturing, defective design or insufficient instructions and warnings, the manufacturer, supplier or retailer may be responsible for the damages.

Any company involved in the production or sale of a product is held to a very high standard; legally, this is called strict liability. Strict liability means that a person or entity is responsible for any harm caused by their product, regardless of their attempt to make the product as safe as possible. That means, if a company thought they had a good design for a product, ran tests to make sure it was safe and produced it with the highest standard of care, if the product causes harm to consumers, that company may still be responsible for compensating those who were injured by their product.

Types of accidents that result from faulty products can range from minor to severe. Perhaps a chair you bought collapsed when you sat in it or contaminated food made you sick. Or maybe your child choked on a small part that came off of a toy or you were seriously injured in an accident due to defective tires. All of these things fall under the umbrella of defective products.

People who have been injured by a defective product may be entitled to seek compensation for things like:

•	Medical bills
•	Pain and suffering
•	Prescription drug costs
•	Time missed from work
•	Reduced earning potential
•	Property damaged by the defective product
•	Any other costs you incurred as a result of your injury

Determining who is responsible for a defective product often takes the skill of a personal injury lawyer with experience in products liability. Sometimes, multiple parties are responsible for a defective product. Before you give up rights that you have to full compensation for your injuries, it is important to talk to a qualified personal injury lawyer. An experienced lawyer can not only help you determine who to hold responsible for your injuries, but help you determine exactly what damages you are entitled to seek compensation for.
